Some of my very first products were black-and-white postcards. Drawing outlines has always been my safe space. I love clean lines, clear shapes, and the calm focus that comes with them. That’s how the idea for color-in postcards was born.
After a while, though, I felt a bit sobered. Not everyone seemed excited about coloring the cards themselves. I was often asked whether they were also available in color, and many people admitted they simply didn’t have the patience to color them in. I’ll be honest: that made me a little sad at first. But it also made me stop and ask myself an important question: did I ever color them in myself? The answer was no.
Coloring has always been something that makes me overthink. Whenever I work with color, I usually do it digitally, where I can undo every stroke and adjust endlessly. Working with analog color felt intimidating. So instead of avoiding it, I decided to turn it into an exercise.
That’s how Original Series I came to life. Using only colored pencils and a dry technique, I colored all 11 available themes by hand. Each card exists only once and is truly unique. I spend around three to four hours on every single postcard, slowly building up rich details and textures. And to my own surprise: it’s actually fun. I genuinely enjoy the process so much so that I even added a custom stamp to the back of each card.
For future series, I plan to experiment with different materials such as watercolors, markers, or wax crayons. The Original Series is my space to learn, slow down, and let go of perfection one card at a time.
